Do you know what a Fear Cycle in puppies/dog is?

Q: Our four months old puppy has started to act terribly afraid of unusual objects. On a walk, he was upset: Bark and run away from a snow shovel. It’s just not like him. Usually he is so tolerant. Is this something we should worry about?

A: Owners of puppies that are consistently nervous probably should be concerned. Thankfully, This does not seems to be the case here.

Understand that fear is the driving factor. You should be sensitive to these phases. Watch out for signs of unusual behavior so you can keep the experience positive.

During periods of fear, avoid unnecessary stress. Force a dog to overcome his fears when episodes occur. It’s like throwing spiders at someone who is phobic. It probably will not work and would like someone who is not trustworthy. Although outbreaks seem daunting, do not punish the dog. If not, you confirm that it had every right to be concerned. There is a precedent you do not want to ask.

The place adopt a happy disposition. Dogs are better at reading human body language than chimpanzees. A positive attitude radiates confidence. Try to throw a few treats around the scary object. Encourage but do not force the dog to come closer. When it’s ready, it will turn into an object for his own and return to his usual behavior.
